Abstract
Genocide is a social practice that extends far beyond the moment of extermination. It is a process that requires prior stages to develop (stigmatization, harassment, isolation, systematic weakening) and continues after extermination, as it seeks to transform the identities of the societies in which it is implemented. The aim of this presentation is to account for the forms that genocidal processes take, the specific ways in which they seek to transform social relationships, and, as a central focus, how the work of processing their consequences impacts the identity of the peoples who have experienced extermination. Focusing on the analysis of the historical experiences of Nazism and the last military dictatorship in Argentina, this analysis proposes to develop a framework of understanding that can also contribute to the analysis of other historical experiences.
The lecture series will take place from October 14, 2025 to January 27, 2026, every Tuesday from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. The events will be held in a hybrid format at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences (Stendal Campus, Building 3, Audimax) and via Zoom (Zoom link provided after registration).
