On June 8, 2024, the 5th alumni reunion of the Electrical Engineering course took place at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences. Almost 70 former electrical engineering students followed Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Schwarzenau's invitation to return to the Magdeburg campus.
On Saturday, June 8 at 2 p.m., Lecture Hall 6 in Building 14 is fully occupied. Only a few seats remain free. Many guests have come to the state capital from all over Germany for this afternoon, as well as some Magdeburg residents. However, none of them are unfamiliar with the city or the campus, as they have all studied electrical engineering at the university or taught in the subject area at the university!
And so the opening of the event by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Schwarzenau is above all a “welcome back”. The Rector of the university, Prof. Dr. Manuela Schwartz, also warmly welcomes the participants and emphasizes the special importance of alumni for the further development of teaching and transfer at the university. Afterwards, 10 of the participating alumni presented their professional careers in exciting presentations. These insights show the impressive diversity of the graduates' career paths. From positions in research and development to work in industry and management positions, everything is represented.
However, the afternoon and evening are mainly characterized by conversations about the time spent together as students, current work topics and everything that moves life. There is plenty of opportunity for this during the breaks and at the barbecue at the end, where discussions continue and memories are exchanged in a relaxed atmosphere. The pleasant atmosphere and the summer weather contribute to the reunion being a complete success.
This year's alumni meeting is also special for another reason: Prof. Schwarzenau will be ending his career this year and going into well-deserved retirement. Ten years ago, he initiated the Electrical Engineering alumni reunion and has organized it every two years ever since. His summary of this year's reunion: “The alumni were all in a good mood and very happy with the program and the opportunity to meet up again and network. So I will go into retirement with another very fond memory.”
The Alumni Management would like to thank Prof. Schwarzenau on behalf of all graduates for his outstanding commitment to alumni work. A successor is currently being sought to organize the next reunion in 2026.
