Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Przemyslaw Komarnicki received the 2024 Research Award for his outstanding commitment and research strength at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences' Science Day on November 20. He contributes to the university's high reputation not only nationally, but also internationally.

Born in Poland, he has been Professor of Electrical Systems Engineering at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences in the Department of Engineering and Industrial Design since 2018. During his time at the university's Institute of Electrical Engineering, he has raised a total of around 5 million euros in third-party funding and worked on 23 research projects. A new project often builds on the previous one. For Komarnicki, the end of a project is not the end, but the beginning of further in-depth research and networking opportunities: “For me, the research prize is above all a motivational boost to work even more intensively on research and teaching together with my team.”

Komarnicki came to Germany 22 years ago as part of the double degree program at Politechnika Wroclawska and Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. He successfully completed his diploma studies in 2004. This was followed in 2007 by a doctorate at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg on the subject of “Application of high-precision, synchronous measurements to improve the operation of distribution networks”. After six years at the university, he says: “Teaching is the be-all and end-all for me. Sometimes I get too deep into the details and the critical exchange with my students is very enriching,” explains Komarnicki. Particularly in view of the energy transition and advancing digitalization, it is important to combine practice and theory as intensively as possible in teaching. He therefore develops further questions from his research projects, writes books and uses these as the basis for his lectures. In addition to his teaching activities, he held various positions at the Fraunhofer Institute from 2004 to July 2024 and is a member of national and international committees.

The Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences research prize is awarded annually and is endowed with 2,000 euros.
